Instructions

Let the Ice Cream Melt

Working with a block of ice isn’t as easy as mixing ice cream that had time to soften. So, before you need to make a milkshake, let the ice cream melt for some time.

Usually, 10 to 15 minutes at room temperature will do the trick. This way, you’ll need less milk to start the process and create the mixture.

While you wait, chill the glasses in the freezer and prepare the additions you plan on using, but more on that later.

After the time has passed, squeeze the container and check if your ice cream is soft enough for preparation. Once the main ingredient is ready, you can proceed to the next step.

Preparing the Glasses and the Additions

If you’re aiming for a perfect milkshake, then you shouldn’t forget about the glasses. Make sure to chill them before the drink is ready.

So, if possible, make room in your freezer for two milkshake glasses and let them cool off while you prepare everything else.

You can do this while the ice cream melts and use this time to prepare the additions as well. This means it’s chopping time!

Pull out the candies, fruits, or anything else you wish to add to this milkshake recipe and prepare them for the mix. If anything needs chopping, aim for pieces about 1/2 inch large.

Fill the Blender

It’s time to layer the ingredients in the blender. Follow this order to get the best results.

Firstly, pour 2/3 cup milk, then add any flavor boosters you may be using, and lastly, the ice cream. Don’t add any mix-ins at this moment.

Blending Time!

The best way to blend everything is by starting at the lowest speed. Work your way up to medium, then max acceleration. Most likely, you’ll get the perfect consistency within a minute.

You should be aiming for a liquid that pours easily and moves like lava. Once your mix reaches that state, stop the blending, and move on to the next step.

Mix in the Additions

If you plan on working with mix-ins, this is the time to add them to the blender. The key to doing this step correctly is not to overmix the ingredients.

Instead, add 1/2 cup mix-ins and pulse the blender 6-8 times. This will combine the shake but not make it gritty.

And, Serve!

The only thing left to do is serve and enjoy what you’ve made. So, drizzle some caramel or chocolate syrup down the sides of the glasses, and pour the shake.

Then, garnish with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a Maraschino cherry, and enjoy!

How to Make a Milkshake – Extra Tips

No worries, it’s natural for you to have a few questions that still need answering. We tried to mention the most common ones, so give this section a look if you need some extra tips.

How to Make a Milkshake Without a Blender?

Not having a blender will make this process a bit less straightforward, but you’ll still be able to make a milkshake with a bit of effort. Try using an immersion blender instead of the regular one, and some food processor will do the trick as well.

The one thing you should keep your eye on is still the consistency of the shake. No matter which appliance you use, the shake will turn out just right if you achieve the desired texture and follow the remaining instructions.

How to Thicken a Milkshake?

Over-blending is the easiest mistake you can make throughout the process of making a milkshake. Luckily, the error is reversible quite easily.

If your shake turns out too thin, add a scoop of ice cream or however much you need, blend for a short time, and voila! You’ve reached perfection.

How to Make a Milkshake Ahead of Time?

You know that making it isn’t that difficult if you’ve read through our milkshake recipe. So, since the process doesn’t require much time or effort, it’s best to make it for immediate consumption.

But, if your shake must wait for someone, there is a correct wait to do so. Transfer the mixture into a plastic cup, and leave it in the freezer.

Once you wish to try it, take it out of the cold and leave it at room temperature for about 20 minutes. Then, give it a good stir, and it will be ready to go.

Of course, don’t forget to transfer the shake into a fancy glass and garnish it with whipped cream and other attractive toppings.

What Are the Best Combinations?

Banana and Chocolate Smoothie in the Glass Jar

As you know, there are endless possibilities when it comes to making a milkshake. But, what flavor combinations are proven to work? Well, these are some of our favorites.

  • Chocolate Banana

Chocolate ice cream, bananas, and whipped cream, and that’s it. You don’t need a bunch of ingredients to make the best shake. Sometimes, keeping it simple will give the best result.

  • Oreo Shake

Vanilla ice cream with ground oreo cookies, some larger oreo chunks, and a bit of chocolate syrup will blow your mind. If you love Oreos, this shake is a guaranteed hit.

  • Vanilla Fruits

The perfect base for most shakes is none other than vanilla ice cream. If you add fruits to the mix, you’ll get a refreshing dessert perfect for any occasion.

Our advice is not to forget the strawberries. Strawberry and vanilla are known to be the perfect pair, and it’s no different with milkshake combinations.

  • Peanut Butter Chocolate

Who doesn’t love chocolate and peanuts together? Peanut butter flavored desserts are difficult to say no to, and for a reason. If you adore Reese’s, give this mix a shot, and you’ll be amazed.
